Unite Against Racism

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit), and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.

This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.

Great Spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you. To your messengers the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other so that they may grow with peace in mind. Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this Earth. ~Chief Yellow Hawk

  1. Well written article. Racism is still a very much in your face in some areas. I am white. My wife is Black/Mexican. I still see people stare at us and make comments.

  2. There's so many social matters around us and this racism still one of them. We have to work hard to fight against racism because no one is better than anyone!

  3. Basically, we are all one race anyway. It is we who seek small differences to divide our world into "us" and "them". That basic factor colors so many things, from why we cheer for the local team (just because it's local, does it really deserve cheering?) to being suspicious of people with different skin tones. As the world shrinks, I am sure this will change; it will take a long time.
