A New Leaf

Another year has come and gone,

and a new one is upon us.

As time marches forward,

and we celebrate and ponder,

this mystery called life,

let us not forget the

impact that we have,

on this earth we live on,

and the people that surround us.

Though we all have our own path,

we all walk a common road.

We are all here on this earth,

to help each other out.

This is a simple lesson to learn,

but the hardest one to follow.

Greed and hate seem to have

taken over, and left only

loss and sorrow.

But a new dawn is upon us,

this you can be sure.

All the greed and pain can

be overcome,

if we all work together,

and help our fellow man.

There has always been peace

and light in this land,

but lately it's been hiding,

waiting for a new day to dawn,

and all God's people to follow.

So, lets all turn a new leaf

in this coming new year,

and all walk in peace and love,

and remember why we are here.

Tossed Coins

I walked by a homeless man today

sitting in the street.

He was covered in pain and despair,

as he asked me if i had change to spare.

I tossed some coins into his hat

and started to walk away,

when a feeling came over me,

and i decided to stay.

He said most people look away

as they shuffle down the street,

too busy to reach out to someone

who just wants to eat.

I said to this man,

if i have change to spare

then i always do,

because there but for

the grace of God,

go the likes of me and you.

So lets all think of our fellow man

this holiday season,

toss them a few coins,

and remember,

God put us all here,

for a reason.

Futile Arson

I tried to write a poem about the heavy rain,

but it's been done, it's all been said.

Writing about the heaviness

doesn't lift the weight.

I'm going to google emotional train wreck

and see what comes up.

One way or another, this house

is going to go up in flames.

My fingers smell burnt and

my eyelashes are singed.

Perhaps we drank too much until

the soft light made us dizzy.

Passed out and woke up without

a memory of all the storms

that had passed in the night.

The heavy rain seeping into our bones,

i wanted to sit there forever,

then we got up to leave.

More dessert would be absurd,

more sleep, more sex,

more conversation, i want it all, i feel it all.

Googling impossible to satisfy,

the moon made me this way.

The sky is gray out there, maybe the house

wont catch fire, maybe it can't

through all this dampness,

like each street is smeared

with thick oil paints,

even my sheets feel damp.

Do i sweat through those odd,

twisted dreams, or does the heavy rain

find it's way into my bed?

How can i feel so empty and

so full at the same time?

Googling complex contradiction.

The wind is starting to pick up, intense,

but it might help to dry things out a bit,

lift the gray ceiling off my head.

It's pushing down, pushing

my head into my heart,

gotta get those two straight again.

Gotta push back up at that sky.

Odd Magic

It was the pain that brought the magic,

i know it must sound queer.

It may even seem to be very tragic,

but there's no need to fear.

Then the magic brought the solitude,

solitude built the walls.

In a land where no one may intrude,

darkness never falls.

It was the magic that brought the storms,

blowing with gale force.

Flitting on the edge without form,

never felt remorse.

Loneliness brought on scathing clarity,

painful new insight.

Thoughts full of seeming disparity,

haunt my dreams at night.

Then the magic brought you to me,

i can feel it in my heart.

The loneliness and solitude i once felt,

is filled with loving light.

Through the trials and the tears,

you hold me near, and calm my fears.

Though we argue and we fight,

you still love me, and it's all right.

Now i know, now i see, the magic

made me who i am supposed to be.

So here's to you dear, and what we have.

I'll always be here until the last.

Dark Moon

So here we are again, on the edge.

The rain is drawing a cold curtain

between the living and the dead.

The daylight is waning

as the moon grows darker.

It was a strange choice

for a night to make magic.

A good night for death,

for all endings to flourish.

But, to create something,

anything, in the face

of such darkness was brazen,

to say the least.

We have been known

to be bold, but sometimes

weeks pass without

such acts of courage.

To remind us that we

can live on the edge,

to remind us,

that the moon is on our side.
