Desert Song

Oh, how i would love
to get away,
and spend a whole
month on the desert.
What a grand and glorious
thing it would be,
to get away where bills and telephones
couldn't possibly bother me.
Oh, how i would love
to stretch my legs
on the sun drenched desert floor,
and fill my jaded city lungs
with the new, clean,
life giving desert air once more.
I would let my weary mind surely find
sublime rest in
the peaceful solitude.
I would really be quite satisfied
for once in my life,
to shut the whole world out,
and only have each single day
and night to think about.
Oh, wouldn't it be simply grand,
to get so far away and be all alone,
just to relax and rest,
upon the desert floor once more,
and never have to worry,
or be pained about this mad,
war driven land again.

This desert song may never reach
an appreciative listeners ear,
nor this poets dream may never teach
a wayward heart to cast out fear.
But though this desert song
may never ring,
and this poets dreams
may never come true,
only God in heaven knows its joys,
enough to sing and dream,
a dream or two,
that will help us all
along life's path,
and make all our
dreams come true.

  4. my first thought was the song from America --I've been to the desert on a horst with no name-- sometimes solitude is a good thing getting reacquainted with one's self-- great poem totally understand and can relate so well!!

  5. Sometime the dream is enough, it doesn't have to come true.
